Equipping a 300 Bed Hospital – Mirebalais, Haiti
IMEC works in collaboration with Partners in Health (PIH) to equip a 300 bed hospital being constructed by PIH in Mirebalais, Haiti.
This exciting and important project in Mirebalais is a perfect fit for IMEC’s mission in health care, which is to provide doctors and nurses in developing countries with the tools they need to serve their nation’s poor. With the IMEC Suites in place at the hospital, the doctors and nurses at Mirebalais will have access to a wide range of quality tools that enable significantly improved health care in that region.
IMEC joined the project in 2010 while the project was still in its planning stages. Working closely with our partners at PIH, we created an equipment plan to equip the hospital with IMEC Suites, which includes suites ranging from Labor and Delivery Suites to Exam Room Suites to Laboratory Suites. IMEC’s logistical capabilities have allowed us to also participate in the hospital’s construction process. IMEC receives and inventories construction materials and packs them into customized Mirebalais Construction Suites.
In total, over 1,200 IMEC Suites will be distributed to the hospital in fifty 40-foot sea shipments as we equip all services ranging from administrative offices to surgery to the neonatal intensive care unit.
Once completed, the new hospital will be the largest public hospital outside of Port-au-Prince. It will improve clinical care, allow for a wide array of diagnostics and therapeutics, and provide a dignified setting for patients in an impoverished and medically under-served area. It will allow better access to those in Port-au-Prince who cannot find medical care, and serve as referral hospital for the lower Central Plateau.
